Ohio storefronts: identify the creditor behind the counter

A storefront can help arrange a loan without being the creditor. Start with its local contact, identify who would make the loan, and then compare the disclosures for that specific product.

Bottom Dollar Payday is not the lender. This page helps prepare and compare decisions; it does not submit an application or access accounts or application records.

Published Ohio storefront contacts

Two Columbus access points, checked September 22, 2026. Same network; no confirmed creditor quote or independent live license check.

The map is requested from Google only after you press the button. It searches the displayed place or area; it does not verify a business profile or a license.

Choose the information you need first

You want a Columbus visit

The two published CheckSmart contacts provide access to an unaffiliated lender. Ask for the lender’s legal name; two offices of the same network are not two independently priced offers.

You are looking in Cleveland, Cincinnati or Toledo

These cities are the other planned directory children. The contact selection below is Columbus-only. Use a verified branch address before planning travel in another city.

You already have an Ohio quote

Identify its statute and license type before applying a short-term-loan limit. Do not treat an interest percentage on a banner as the total annual percentage rate.

Use the short-term framework only within its scope

For loans covered by Ohio’s Short-Term Loan Act, the principal limit is $1,000. The usual term is 91 days to one year; the statute permits a shorter term only with its income-based monthly-payment condition. That is not a universal ceiling or schedule for every Ohio lending product. [OH01]

Disclosure What the covered framework says What you must still obtain
Annual interest Up to 28% Disclosed APR including applicable finance charges
Maintenance Subject to the lesser of 10% of original amount or $30 monthly, with exceptions Whether charged and how many times
Origination 2% if originally contracted amount is at least $500 Actual itemized charge and cash delivery
Payments Written amounts, dates and number The creditor’s complete agreement

These permitted items have conditions and must not be assumed on every offer. [OH02]

The shorter-term test uses a monthly payment

For a hypothetical borrower with $3,000 verified gross monthly income and $2,400 net income, the two comparison figures are below. This is an illustration of the term exception, not an approval or affordability result. [OH01]

Calculation Amount Interpretation
6% of $3,000 gross $180 First monthly figure
7% of $2,400 net $168 Second monthly figure
Greater figure $180 Relevant threshold for the shorter-term condition
Hypothetical monthly payment $190 Exceeds that figure by $10

Do not replace the total monthly payment with only its interest component.

Ask the counter to name each business role

CheckSmart’s local pages distinguish the storefront from an unaffiliated lender. Ask who receives the application, who provides the agreement, who disburses funds and who handles payments. A check-cashing license number is not, by itself, proof of the creditor’s lending authority. Preserve the relevant disclosure rather than relying on the brand above the door. [OH03] [OH04]

Prepare the visit without consenting to an unknown offer

Ask about identification, current income and address evidence, and any account requirement. Request the actual funding method and remaining verification steps. Do not interpret a completed store form as final approval. The listed Friday hours extend later than the usual weekday schedule, but new-loan cutoffs and holiday hours still require confirmation. [OH03] [OH04]

Compare equal cash received and the full term

Put net proceeds, all payments, total cost and early-payoff terms in one worksheet. A disclosed lower interest rate can coexist with additional charges. When two offers deliver different net amounts, first mark that mismatch; a smaller total repayment may simply purchase less usable cash. Keep optional services and check-cashing charges separate from the credit comparison.

Keep account help distinct from shopping

For a pending application, contact the named recipient. For a missed-payment risk, ask the actual creditor about arrangements and keep written records. Covered short-term contracts include cancellation and electronic-payment disclosures; review their exact timing rather than assuming an open-ended right to cancel. Consult Ohio’s financial regulator for unresolved authority or disclosure questions. [OH01]

Questions before continuing

Does 28% cap every cost?

No. In the covered law it is the annual interest limit; the statute separately permits certain conditional charges. Use the agreement’s disclosed APR and dollar totals. [OH02]

Do both contacts make the loan themselves?

The pages say they provide access to an unaffiliated lender. The actual creditor must be identified in your own transaction. [OH03] [OH04]

Is a $180 payment safe in the example?

The figure illustrates one legal term condition. Household spending and other obligations can make it unaffordable.
