Use Louisiana’s current annual limit for the right product

Louisiana’s annual principal limits changed on September 1, 2026. Identify whether the agreement is deferred presentment or a small loan, then compare net cash, authorized charges and repayment—not a stale maximum copied from an older page.

Bottom Dollar Payday is not the lender. This page helps prepare and compare decisions; it does not submit an application or access accounts or application records.

What do you need to resolve first?

An older page says $350

OFI’s August 25, 2026 notice gives new annual ceilings. Use the applicable product and effective period, not the old FAQ or an undated store promotion. A ceiling is not a promise of an offer. [LA01]

I need an exact local contact

Use the published Baton Rouge, Port Allen or Shreveport card. Port Allen remains a separate municipality; it is not counted as a second Baton Rouge-city location.

I want to know the cash cost

Separate outstanding principal, check face, fee and actual proceeds. Louisiana’s stated percentage fee uses the check face; do not automatically apply it to another field. [LA02]

The annual OFI notice controls the date-sensitive number

OFI publishes the indexed maximum outstanding principal balances for deferred-presentment transactions and small loans. The two columns are different product categories and cannot be swapped because an advertisement uses the broad phrase “payday loan.” The current notice is dated August 25, 2026. [LA01]

Effective period Deferred-presentment principal ceiling Small-loan principal ceiling
September 1, 2025–August 31, 2026 $720 $360
September 1, 2026–August 31, 2027 $740 $370

The earlier row is included only to make the date change clear. Neither row is a statement of what a selected store offers or what you qualify for. The current ceiling is not automatically the check amount or the cash that arrives after charges. Ask the legal provider to identify the relevant product and its actual amount.

Avoid mixing the fee basis with the principal ceiling

Louisiana Revised Statutes 9:3578.4 states a fee ceiling of 16.75% of the check face and separately addresses other authorized charges. Do not reuse an old blanket fee cap or assume every additional line item is allowed. Ask for the contractual and statutory basis of each charge. [LA02]

Field in a hypothetical check example Amount Meaning
Check face $400 The stated check amount in this illustration
Fee at 16.75% of that check $67 A cost, not money for the bill
Net after only that fee $333 $400 minus $67
Other charges included in this example $0 Not an assertion that all real transactions have none

This is arithmetic, not a branch quote or a full legal-price determination. Its $400 check is not described as a $400 small-loan principal. Keep the labels intact when comparing it with the principal-limit table.

Use the actual municipalities in the contact selection

Cash 2 U’s Baton Rouge store-information block supplies its local contact; its Port Allen page describes a different city. E-Z Cash publishes a Shreveport contact. Older promotional amount claims on a store page are not used as the current law or an available offer. [LA03] [LA04] [MS03]

City you searched Contact coverage here Next step
Baton Rouge One published city contact Confirm today’s product and hours
Shreveport One published city contact Call for current weekly schedule and written terms
New Orleans No in-city contact established here Find a first-party local address and OFI record
Lafayette No in-city contact established here Verify the municipality and relevant activity

Port Allen appears separately as an additional contact, not as in-city coverage for those other places. No license, live opening state, rating or branch manager is inferred from the address. The optional map searches the displayed location and is not a profile verification.

Ask about amount, documents and timing in the same call

Tell the branch the net amount needed and deadline. Ask which documents it accepts, which legal creditor would be involved, and whether a request is completed in store or sent elsewhere. A published application button does not establish the recipient of an eventual credit agreement. [F04] [F05]

Then ask for the actual maturity date and delivery method. A higher legal ceiling does not shorten verification or bank posting. If the amount offered is below the bill, calculate the remaining gap using only money or assistance confirmed to arrive by the deadline.

A larger permitted amount does not increase repayment capacity

Illustrative budget: after planned essentials, $470 is available before the next confirmed income. A proposed total repayment of $400 leaves $70. If another $110 essential payment falls due in the same window, there is a $40 gap. The new principal ceiling does not remove that shortage.

Use the written payment total, not just the cash advanced, in the affordability worksheet. If you compare a loan with a biller payment arrangement, include the same expense and dates in both options. Do not finance a larger amount simply because the legal maximum has risen. [F01]

Resolve conflicting information with the relevant source

Use OFI for current annual limits and the appropriate licensing or complaint route; use the provider for its actual contract and branch contact. When the two appear to disagree, first check whether they describe different dates, products or fields. A store might choose to offer less than a statutory ceiling without creating a legal conflict. [LA01] [LA05]

For an existing payment problem, contact the creditor named on your agreement and ask what arrangements are available. A new directory inquiry does not modify that debt. Keep the provider’s written response, and do not pay someone upfront to guarantee a new loan. [F10] [F09]

Questions before continuing

Does the $740 ceiling also apply to the small-loan category?

No. The current OFI table distinguishes $740 for deferred presentment and $370 for small loans during the stated annual period.

Why can a store page advertise a smaller amount?

A provider can offer less than the legal ceiling, or the page may describe another product or older terms. Ask for a current written offer rather than assuming the advertisement is the law.

Does the $333 example guarantee that amount will be paid?

No. It is a $400-check illustration with only a $67 fee. An actual agreement needs its own product classification, charges and proceeds.
