In California, compare cash received—not just the check

A California payday advertisement using $300 can refer to the check amount, not $300 placed in your hand. Use the net amount for your bill and the full repayment for your budget before choosing a store.

Bottom Dollar Payday is not the lender. This page helps prepare and compare decisions; it does not submit an application or access accounts or application records.

Which detail could change your choice?

My bill needs $300 in cash

At a $300 check and maximum $45 fee, the advance is $255. That leaves a $45 gap against a $300 bill. Do not count the fee as money available for the expense. [CA01] [CA02]

I need a weekend visit

The two selected stores publish different weekend schedules. Call the loan number for the specific branch; Sunday opening does not mean approval or funding is guaranteed that day.

I only found a check-cashing phone

A branch can publish separate phone numbers for check cashing and loans. The card uses the listed loan contact where that distinction is available. Verify the product before making a trip. [CA03] [CA04]

A check ceiling is different from an advance

California DFPI describes a payday transaction with a check of no more than $300, a fee no higher than 15% of the check, and a term no longer than 31 days. Its example at the maximum check and fee yields $255 to the borrower. The California Attorney General also explains the check-and-fee structure. These limits do not require a lender to approve the maximum. [CA01] [CA02]

Item in the maximum-fee illustration Amount How to use it
Check face / total repayment $300 Place on the repayment date
Fee at 15% of the check $45 Count as borrowing cost, not proceeds
Net advance $255 Compare with the bill you must pay
Gap against a $300 expense $45 Find another source or adjust the expense

Do not add another $45 to the $300 repayment in this illustration. The fee is already included in that check amount. A different product, such as an installment loan, needs its own rules and contract rather than this payday calculation.

Match the branch and telephone to the actual service

USA Checks Cashed publishes a San Diego Westview Parkway location with a loan telephone and a separate Chula Vista Broadway location with its own loan number. The cards retain the provider’s exact municipalities. Chula Vista is not counted as a second San Diego-city branch. Their published Sunday schedules differ. [CA03] [CA04]

Call first when the deadline matters. Ask for the loan desk, current service availability and the documents needed for your situation. The map button searches the displayed address only after you request it; it does not authenticate the business.

A shorter term can make a small fee harder to repay

A dollar fee can look manageable while the single payment remains difficult. Put the whole check amount on the actual due date, then account for rent, food, transport, utilities and other debt before the next confirmed income. A 31-day maximum is not a promise that every contract will give you 31 days. [CA01]

Illustrative budget: $420 remains after already-planned essentials. Paying the example $300 leaves $120. If another $150 essential bill falls due before you are paid, the plan is short by $30. Changing the branch does not remove that shortfall. Revisit the amount needed or the biller’s payment options. [F01]

Prepare only the evidence the verified provider requires

Ask which identity, income and account documents the loan desk accepts. A missing conventional pay stub does not tell you whether another income record will be accepted. Do not substitute a general website checklist for the branch’s actual requirements, and do not assume that receiving benefits or having low credit guarantees a decision. The CFPB’s qualification guidance is general, not this provider’s underwriting policy. [F04]

Before sharing account information, identify the legal creditor and the recipient of the documents. Account verification, an incoming transfer and permission for recurring withdrawals are different actions. Read the consent and proposed payment arrangement separately.

Resolve a net-cash gap without silently stacking debt

When the advance is smaller than the expense, subtract only money you actually have or confirmed assistance that arrives by the deadline. An expected refund, unapproved benefit or future loan is not available cash. A payment arrangement with the biller can change the deadline or required amount without pretending a higher advance is permitted.

Compare any alternative using equal net proceeds, total payments, dates and any collateral at risk. This directory does not rank the stores or promise the lowest price. A provider’s own website is a contact source, not proof that its product is the best fit.

Use DFPI for authorization questions and keep your agreement

Follow the DFPI route to check the relevant license and use the state complaint resources when needed. Match the entity and location rather than assuming a logo, regulator link or map confirms authorization. This page has not performed an individual licensing lookup for the selected stores. [CA02]

Keep a copy of the fee, check amount, maturity date and payment authorization. If you cannot repay, contact the creditor before the due date to ask about available arrangements; a request for help is not itself an extension. Do not pay a separate upfront amount merely to obtain a guaranteed loan. [F10] [F09]

Questions before continuing

Is $255 always the maximum available cash?

It is the net advance in the $300-check example when the maximum $45 fee is charged. Actual net proceeds depend on the permitted fee and transaction; a provider may offer less.

Can I call the check-cashing desk for a loan?

Ask the branch which number handles loans. The cards use a distinct published loan number where the first-party page supplies one.

Does the Sunday schedule guarantee Sunday funding?

No. It is a published opening schedule, not a credit decision or a funding promise. Confirm service, cutoff and delivery method directly.
